About the Midwife / Fremont Midwifery of Seattle, WA / Home & Birth Center Births
A native of New York, Geraldine came to the Pacific Northwest to complete her midwifery training at Seattle Midwifery School after graduating with a B.A. from Barnard College of Columbia University. During her time in college, she discovered that midwives still existed, and were providing a stellar alternative to the usual, no-frills obstetric care that dominated the scene for the past century.
Geraldine worked at several busy Seattle area practices before starting her solo practice, Fremont Midwifery, in the Summer of 2009.
Prior to becoming a midwife, Geraldine was a NYS Emergency Medical Technician, theater electrician/stage manager, doula, and childbirth educator. She has been guest speaker at TOPS and the Bush School for midwifery lectures and placenta demonstrations. Her midwifery training included births in Seattle as well as an overseas rotation in Vanuatu at Vila Central Hospital. From 2006 - 2009, Geraldine was a preceptor for both Seattle Midwifery School and Bastyr University midwifery students.
Geraldine Lee, Licensed Midwife
You are assisting at someone else’s birth. Do good without show or fuss. Facilitate what is happening rather than what you think ought to happen. When the baby is born, the mother will rightly say: “We did it by ourselves.” - Lao Tzu
Geraldine often be found running on the Burke-Gilman or biking around town (and to your home visit). She enjoys circus arts, knitting, building with cob, and healthy irreverence. She encourages everyone to have a container garden regardless of where they choose to birth.
